How to read the Brazil desk
Portuguese is the language of the Brazilian press. If you cannot read it, you are reading a wire about Brasilia, football, or the Amazon — not the country.
Folha, O Globo, Estadão, and G1 are the big doors. UOL is the web desk. They are not interchangeable, and they are not the government. English on Brazil is better than on Angola and still thin next to the Portuguese ocean.
This list is national. It is not every state paper in the federation. São Paulo and Rio set the weather. Recife and Manaus have press we have not put here yet.
Name collisions are rare. The risk is treating a Reuters take on Lula or Bolsonaro as the Brazilian conversation. Open Folha or G1 before you decide.
