How to read the Chad desk
This is the country. The capital is N'Djamena. It is not a given name. English wires are full of people called Chad. We pin the search to N'Djamena so a celebrity item does not become the Sahel.
French and Arabic are the languages of what press there is. Alwihda, Journal du Tchad, Tchadinfos, and the state broadcaster ONRTV are the local doors. English is almost entirely the regional wire: juntas, gold, refugees, a French base, a column of fighters. That is not nothing. It is not a newspaper.
This is a thin desk and we say so. There is no second daily of record in English. If a story is only in French, that is the desk. We do not invent a paper to fill the hole.
The names are the links. Open Alwihda and one state door before you take a Paris or Washington rewrite as the local version.
