How to read the Georgia desk
This is the country. The capital is Tbilisi. It is not Atlanta, Savannah, or the University of Georgia. The wires will try to send you to the American state. We pin the search to Tbilisi, Sakartvelo, and the Republic of Georgia. If a SEC football score still appears, that is a leak, not the desk.
Georgian is the language of the Tbilisi press. English is unusually good for the Caucasus — Civil.ge, OC Media, and a few others file in it — because donors, diplomats, and a diaspora read it. That English layer is useful. It is not the same as what a reader of Imedi, Formula, or Tabula sees at breakfast.
The local list is short on purpose. Civil.ge is a specialist English door. Formula, Interpressnews, and Tabula are Georgian desks. We do not put the Atlanta Journal-Constitution here.
Status fights leak in from Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Those have their own pages. This desk is the internationally recognised republic, not a verdict on the breakaways.
Use two languages if you can: one Georgian title and one English explainer. If you only read English, you are reading the version written for you.
