How to read the India desk
English is one language of the Indian press, not the only one. This list is the English national layer: The Hindu, Indian Express, Hindustan Times, Times of India, NDTV, Tribune. Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali and the rest have huge papers we have not listed. That is a hole. We say so.
English Indian press is not a colonial leftover in the Angola sense. It is a working national language of the courts, the business class, and a lot of the political fight. It is still not what most of the country reads.
This desk is the Republic of India. It is not a US town named India, and it is not a single-state story from Uttar Pradesh unless the national papers have picked it up.
The names are the links. Open two papers that do not share a proprietor.
