How to read the Russia desk
Russian is the language of the Moscow press. TASS is the state wire. Interfax is an agency with a long commercial life. It is not TASS. Kommersant and RBC are the papers on this list. They publish in a narrowed space. Read them as Moscow, not as the whole of Russian.
Independent titles have closed, gone quiet, or moved abroad. They are not all on this list. A state-heavy desk is a description. It is not a compliment and not a ban.
English on Russia is mostly the war, oil, and sanctions, filed from somewhere else. Open Kommersant or RBC before you take a London rewrite as the local version.
This is the Russian Federation. Ukraine has its own page.
